FRAIL JUSTICE

Greetings friends

I have attached a Video to accompany this report– It is mobile phone video from an incident that took place a few days back in our city of Chennai – WARNING it shows extreme violence,

Chennai is home to our states LAW COLLEGE – a few days back there was a CASTE fight between two or more different CASTE groups that are all students at that college.

The motive is unclear except for common issues surrounding CASTE strife… the higher caste students likely mistreat and abuse the lower caste students who then knowing their rights fight back and violence emerges…

Caste is a PRIMARY NECESSITY of the Hindu faith – in rural areas low caste people are killed for walking on the wrong side of the road and there is seldom any recourse against the assailants.

The practice of CASTE is technically an ILLEGAL protocol, but is chalked up to culture – so it continues openly and freely.

Most government and power seats are controlled by the high caste.

This is a significant freedom fight against a bid to oppress those who would be free. I am not sure which side instigated it in this scenario, but be assured that the High Caste students do not want the lower caste students to be aware and confident of their legal rights, let alone be representatives for justice.

There are several shocking things about this event.

1.       These are LAW STUDENTS – they are the ones who will be responsible for shaping the future of JUSTICE in Chennai India – the brutality shown is exceedingly far removed from justice.

2.       The Police are observing the event with casual attitudes, they at no time intervene or assist – these are the LAW ENFORCEMENT agents, who are paralyzed with fear for their jobs, Law Students are likely children of Lawyers, politicians or judges who have elusive powers and are above the law – the police were unwilling, but also powerless…

3.       The Principal of the law college made a statement the following day that “NOTHING HAPPENNED” - the person responsible for educating the future of justice has chosen to hide and protect the students and the reputation of the institution over seeking justice and punishing the perpetrators of this criminal activity..

There are some huge challenges for us as India emerges onto the world stage and its influence and is felt amongst the nations of the world.

And it is a solemn reminder for us that we need to be cautious as a minority group (Christians) doing active ministry here. There are those who would oppose,  and there is a frail system of justice in place to protect.

For al of its modern appearances, and pockets of forward thinking there is a deep rooted understanding that violence and intimidation are the cure.  Irrational thoughts and actions prevail even when the nation’s hero Gandhi G. led India into an independence that celebrated the ideals of; casteless equality; freedom of religion; non violence; and true justice for all…

Please pray for us and for India.
